Why it matters
Men’s health concerns are often raised late
Men often come to us when something has been bothering them for a while: energy, sleep, mood, weight, sexual function, or a general sense that they do not feel quite like themselves. These changes can build gradually, and it is easy to explain them away. A GP appointment gives you a private, practical place to talk it through and work out what is actually going on.
At Basuto, men’s health is handled as part of ordinary general practice: discreetly, carefully, and without making a performance of why you are here. You see a named GP who can understand your history and look at the whole picture, rather than treating one symptom in isolation. That matters because low energy, reduced libido, poor sleep, weight gain and mood changes often overlap, and can have several possible causes.
That is why assessment at Basuto starts with a conversation and an examination where needed.

Your appointment
What happens in a men’s health appointment
A men’s health appointment at Basuto is a 30-minute GP consultation. Your doctor will take time to understand what has changed, how long it has been going on, any patterns you have noticed, your medical background, medication, family history, and how the issue is affecting day-to-day life. If an examination is helpful, it can be carried out during the appointment.
These symptoms often overlap. Tiredness, lower motivation, reduced libido, poor sleep and weight gain can be linked to stress, alcohol, anxiety, low mood, thyroid function, insulin resistance, medication side effects, or several factors at once. A longer appointment gives your GP time to look at the full picture and decide what is worth checking.
You leave with a clear next step. That may be reassurance, blood tests, a prescription, monitoring, a specialist referral, or a combination. Blood tests are charged separately, and your GP will explain what they recommend and why before anything is arranged.

Private and NHS
Using Basuto alongside your NHS GP
You do not need to leave your NHS GP to be seen here, and booking privately does not affect your NHS registration. Many men use Basuto for prompt, unhurried assessment and continuity, while keeping NHS care for hospital pathways and emergencies.
Where ongoing treatment is better managed by your NHS GP, we provide a letter summarising the assessment and any medication started, so your records stay joined up.

Common Questions
Men’s Health FAQs
What men’s health concerns can you help with?
A wide range: erectile dysfunction, prostate health, cardiovascular risk, fatigue, sleep problems, mood, weight and general wellbeing. If you are not sure what is causing your symptoms, that is exactly what the appointment is for.
Do you offer PSA testing for prostate health?
Yes. PSA testing can be discussed and arranged as part of a men’s health appointment or a Well Man Check, with your GP explaining what the result means and any next steps if further investigation is needed.
Can you help with erectile dysfunction?
Yes. ED is common and treatable, and because it can be an early sign of cardiovascular or hormonal problems, we assess the cause properly rather than only prescribing. See our erectile dysfunction page for what the appointment involves.
Is the appointment confidential and discreet?
Yes. It is a standard GP consultation in a private practice – nothing about booking or attending indicates why you are here, and your records are confidential. Video appointments are available where clinically appropriate if you prefer to talk from home.
Do you offer a Well Man Check?
Yes. Our Well Man Check covers cardiovascular risk, cholesterol, PSA, testosterone, thyroid and more, and suits men who want a structured review rather than a symptom-led appointment.
What’s the difference between this and the Well Man Check?
A men’s health appointment is symptom-led – built around something that has changed. The Well Man Check is a structured preventive review for men who want a check-up rather than a specific concern addressed. Either is a reasonable place to start.
How much does a men’s health appointment cost?
£160 for a standard 30-minute consultation, in person or by video, including any prescription and referral letters. Blood tests and some additional services carry separate fees, explained clearly before anything is arranged.
Can I keep my NHS GP?
Yes. Booking privately does not affect your NHS registration, and there is no catchment area. Many patients use Basuto alongside their NHS GP for quicker access, longer appointments and continuity with a named doctor.
