Men’s health concerns are often raised late

Men often come to us when something has been bothering them for a while: energy, sleep, mood, weight, sexual function, or a general sense that they do not feel quite like themselves. These changes can build gradually, and it is easy to explain them away. A GP appointment gives you a private, practical place to talk it through and work out what is actually going on.

At Basuto, men’s health is handled as part of ordinary general practice: discreetly, carefully, and without making a performance of why you are here. You see a named GP who can understand your history and look at the whole picture, rather than treating one symptom in isolation. That matters because low energy, reduced libido, poor sleep, weight gain and mood changes often overlap, and can have several possible causes.

That is why assessment at Basuto starts with a conversation and an examination where needed.

Men's health consultation in Fulham, London

What happens in a men’s health appointment

A men’s health appointment at Basuto is a 30-minute GP consultation. Your doctor will take time to understand what has changed, how long it has been going on, any patterns you have noticed, your medical background, medication, family history, and how the issue is affecting day-to-day life. If an examination is helpful, it can be carried out during the appointment.

These symptoms often overlap. Tiredness, lower motivation, reduced libido, poor sleep and weight gain can be linked to stress, alcohol, anxiety, low mood, thyroid function, insulin resistance, medication side effects, or several factors at once. A longer appointment gives your GP time to look at the full picture and decide what is worth checking.

You leave with a clear next step. That may be reassurance, blood tests, a prescription, monitoring, a specialist referral, or a combination. Blood tests are charged separately, and your GP will explain what they recommend and why before anything is arranged.

Tests, prescriptions and referrals from the same visit

Where the appointment points to a next step, it can usually be arranged without a second visit.

  • Blood tests (read more): hormone, thyroid, cholesterol, diabetes and cardiovascular profiles – at an additional cost, explained first.
  • Private prescriptions (read more): included in your consultation fee where clinically appropriate; you pay the dispensary for the medicine.
  • Specialist referrals: clear specialist referral letters to, NHS or private, included in your fee.
  • Follow-up: results reviewed with the same named GP.

Using Basuto alongside your NHS GP

You do not need to leave your NHS GP to be seen here, and booking privately does not affect your NHS registration. Many men use Basuto for prompt, unhurried assessment and continuity, while keeping NHS care for hospital pathways and emergencies.

Where ongoing treatment is better managed by your NHS GP, we provide a letter summarising the assessment and any medication started, so your records stay joined up.
