If your family follows the American vaccination schedule – or is moving between the two systems – we can plan your child’s immunisations to match. The UK and USA schedules protect against largely the same diseases but differ in timing, combinations and some additions, and children who move countries often end up part-way through both. That is confusing for parents and easy to get wrong. Your GP can map what your child has already had onto the schedule you need, and advise where the schedules differ.
Your GP can also arrange the additional vaccines required to conform with the USA or other national schedules where clinically appropriate, and provide written records in a format that schools and paediatricians abroad will accept. Catch-up schedules for missed vaccines
If your child has missed vaccines, we can work out a sensible catch-up plan – it is rarely necessary to restart a schedule from the beginning. Doses get missed for ordinary reasons: illness on the day, a house move, time abroad, or invitations that never arrived.
Bring whatever records you have, including a red book or overseas vaccination cards. If the record is incomplete, your GP can still work through the likely position and agree what to do next. Catch-up doses are then spaced correctly and, where possible, combined with as few visits as your child needs.

What happens at a childhood immunisation appointment
A childhood immunisation appointment at Basuto is calm, practical and unhurried.
Your GP will review your child’s age, vaccine history, any missed doses, relevant medical background, and any questions you have, including previous reactions. They will then explain which vaccines are due or suitable, what they protect against, what side effects are common, and what to expect afterwards.
Some children can be vaccinated during the same appointment. Others may need a catch-up plan. Sometimes the appointment is simply a chance to talk through the options and leave with a clearer understanding of the schedule.
Appointments are 30 minutes as standard, so there is time for questions, careful advice, and for an anxious child to settle before anything goes ahead.

Each vaccine is priced individually, and vaccine fees are separate from consultation fees.
We will always tell you the full cost before any vaccine is given. If vaccines are being planned alongside a wider appointment, such as a 6 week baby check or a children’s consultation, your GP will explain the costs clearly in advance.
Alongside the NHS
Private vaccines alongside your child’s NHS care
Booking private immunisations does not affect your child’s NHS registration or their place in the NHS vaccination programme. Many families use both – the NHS schedule as their baseline, and Basuto for flexibility on timing, catch-up planning, schedule alignment after a move, or simply a longer conversation before consenting.
We can provide a record of any vaccines given so your child’s NHS notes stay complete. There is no catchment area, and families come to us from Fulham, Parsons Green, Chelsea, Putney, Hammersmith, Battersea and further afield.

Which childhood vaccines do you provide?
We provide the routine UK schedule, including the 6-in-1, pneumococcal (PCV), rotavirus, MenB, Hib/MenC, MMR, children’s flu, the 4-in-1 pre-school booster, HPV, the 3-in-1 teenage booster and MenACWY, plus additional vaccines to conform with other national schedules.
Can you follow the American vaccination schedule?
Yes. We can plan your child’s immunisations to align with the USA schedule, or map a child part-way through one system onto the other, and provide written records that schools and doctors abroad will accept.
My child has missed vaccines – can you help?
Yes. A private appointment is a good way to work out a sensible catch-up plan. Bring any records you have; schedules do not usually need restarting from the beginning.

What if I am not sure what my child has already had?

Can my child still have NHS vaccinations?
Yes. Private immunisations at Basuto do not affect your child’s NHS registration or NHS vaccination invitations, and we can provide records to keep their NHS notes complete.
What if my child is unwell on the day?
Your GP will advise whether the vaccine should go ahead or be delayed, depending on the illness and the vaccine involved. Minor colds are often fine; anything more significant usually means a short postponement.
What side effects should I expect?
Most children have only mild, short-lived side effects, such as a sore arm or leg, a mild fever, or feeling unsettled for a day or so. Your GP will explain what is expected for each vaccine, how to manage fever, and when to seek advice.
Do you do travel vaccines for children?
Yes, through our travel clinic, which covers destination advice and travel vaccinations for the whole family. If travel is coming up, mention it and we can plan childhood and travel vaccines together.
