A GP practice where children can grow up with us
Basuto has looked after Fulham families on Basuto Road since 1990. Some of the children we see today are the third generation of their family to come here.
That continuity matters in children’s medicine. Children cannot always explain what feels wrong, and parents often know when something is not quite right before there is an obvious answer. A doctor who has seen your child before starts with more context: their history, their usual temperament, and what has changed.
We think that is one of the most useful parts of children’s general practice. It helps a doctor notice the difference between what is normal for your child and what needs closer attention.
The setting helps too. Basuto is a familiar GP practice, not a clinic corridor, and appointments are 30 minutes as standard. There is time for a nervous child to settle, for a proper examination, and for parents to ask the questions they came in with.

You do not need to be sure something is wrong before booking. If your child is not themselves and it is worrying you, that is reason enough.

What happens at a children’s appointment
A children’s appointment starts by understanding what has brought you in: your child’s symptoms, what has changed, how long it has been going on, any relevant medical history, and what you are most concerned about.
We take time to listen before examining your child, if an examination is needed. That examination is carried out at your child’s pace, with care and explanation throughout.
Your GP will then talk you through what they believe may be going on, whether any treatment or tests are needed, and what the next step should be. Sometimes that is reassurance. Sometimes it is a prescription, a blood test, a follow-up appointment or a specialist referral.
Appointments are 30 minutes as standard, so there is time to examine your child carefully, explain the findings, and agree a clear plan, including what to look out for and when to come back if things change.

Same-day appointments for unwell children
If your child is unwell now, we can usually see them on the same day, Monday to Friday. Children rarely fall ill at convenient times, and a sudden fever, a worsening cough or a child who is simply not themselves is exactly what same-day capacity is for.
If you need advice but cannot attend in person, a video appointment may be appropriate – though if an examination is likely to be important, we will advise you to bring your child into the practice. See our same-day appointments page for how booking works on the day.

GP-led care
GP-led paediatric care, with specialists when needed
Basuto provides GP-led paediatric care, with children seen by an experienced GP with a special interest in children’s health.
For many childhood concerns, a GP appointment is the right place to begin. Your doctor can assess your child, examine them carefully, prescribe when appropriate, and arrange any next steps.
When specialist input would be helpful, we explain why and refer promptly through our network of trusted paediatric specialists. A clear referral letter is included in the consultation fee.

Children’s consultation prices and under-16 membership
A children’s private GP consultation costs £140 for 30 minutes, including any prescription and referral letters. Blood tests or vaccines carry separate fees, which we explain before arranging anything.
Under-16 membership is £55 a month for 10 appointments a year, priority same-day booking and prescriptions included, with 10% off when two or more household members join together. Full plan comparison is on the membership page.
Private and NHS care
Using Basuto alongside your child’s NHS GP
Your child stays registered with their NHS GP – booking privately at Basuto changes nothing about their NHS care. Many families use both: the NHS for hospital pathways, health visiting and routine services, and Basuto when they want a same-day appointment, more time with the doctor, or continuity with someone who knows their child.
If your child’s care needs to connect with NHS services, we can provide letters and information for their NHS record where clinically useful. There is no catchment area – families come to us from Fulham, Parsons Green, Chelsea, Putney, Hammersmith, Battersea and across London.

How much does a children’s GP appointment cost?
A children’s consultation is £140 for 30 minutes, including any written prescription and referral letters. Blood tests and vaccines carry separate fees, which your GP will explain before arranging them.
Can my child be seen today?
Usually, yes. Same-day appointments for unwell children are available Monday to Friday where capacity allows. Book online or call 020 7736 7557 for the earliest appointment.
Are your doctors paediatricians?
No – Basuto is a GP-led practice. Your child is seen by an experienced GP with a special interest in paediatrics, and where consultant input is needed we refer promptly within an established network of paediatric specialists.
What ages do you see?
From birth to 16. We see babies, children and young people for acute illness, ongoing concerns and preventive care, including baby checks and immunisations.
Do I need to register my child first?
No. You can book a one-off children’s appointment without registering, and there is no catchment area. Ongoing care works well through under-16 membership, which builds a continuous record with a named GP.
Can you prescribe antibiotics for my child?
Yes, where it is clinically diagnosed. Your GP can issue a private prescription at the correct paediatric dose and duration, dispense it in-house or send it to your preferred pharmacy.
Does my child keep their NHS GP?
Yes. Booking privately does not affect your child’s NHS registration, health visiting or NHS immunisation invitations. Many families use both services.
Do you do childhood vaccinations?
Yes. We provide routine childhood immunisations, catch-up schedules and travel vaccines for children – see our childhood immunisations page for the schedules we cover.
Do you offer home visits for children?
Our doctors see children at the practice, where examination facilities are most comprehensive. If circumstances make travelling difficult, call 020 7736 7557 and we will advise.
Is there a membership plan for children?
Yes. Under-16 membership is £55 a month and includes 10 appointments a year, priority booking and prescriptions. Children can be members independently – a parent or guardian handles registration and payment.
