Whole picture
Women’s health treated as one picture, not one symptom
Women’s health concerns often overlap. Heavy periods, fatigue, menopause symptoms, sleep, mood, contraception, smear tests and wider health can all sit close together, so we take time to look at the full picture rather than treating each concern in isolation.
Basuto has looked after women in Fulham and Parsons Green since 1990. The service is led by Dr Nora Al-Saraf, our Medical Director, who has a special interest in women’s health and hormones. You will be seen by a GP, and if specialist input would be helpful, we can refer you to the right gynaecologist, endocrinologist or fertility specialist.
Women’s health changes over time, and the questions can be different at every stage. Seeing a GP who knows your history makes it easier to understand what has changed and what support is likely to help.
Our services
What our women’s health clinic covers
You do not need a diagnosis before you book. If something has changed, is worrying you or simply feels unresolved, that is reason enough.

Menopause & HRT
Perimenopause and menopause assessment, with HRT prescribed where clinically appropriate and reviews built in. Read more.

PCOS
Assessment of irregular cycles, acne, excess hair and weight change, with blood tests where needed. Read more.

Cervical Screening
Private smear tests in an unhurried appointment, with results explained by your GP. Read more.

Antenatal Care
GP-led support through pregnancy, alongside your NHS midwife or obstetrician. Read more.

Contraception
Starting, switching or reviewing contraception, with time to weigh the options properly.

Period Problems
Heavy, painful, irregular or absent periods, investigated rather than dismissed.

Fertility Questions
Initial assessment, hormone blood tests where appropriate, and referral when needed.

Well Woman Check
A structured health screen including bloods, blood pressure, BMI and a full GP review.
Vaginal dryness, urinary symptoms, low libido, breast concerns and unexplained fatigue are also common reasons to book – none of them too small.

Your appointment
What happens at a women’s health appointment
A women’s health appointment gives you time to talk through what has changed, what you have noticed, and what you would like help with. Your GP will ask about your cycle, symptoms, medication, contraception, relevant family history and any particular worries you want to make sure are covered.
The aim is to understand the pattern. Heavy bleeding, fatigue, mood changes, sleep problems, pelvic pain and menopause symptoms can overlap, and the cause is not always purely hormonal. Your GP may also consider things like iron levels, thyroid function, medication, stress and wider health.
If an examination would be useful, it can be done during the appointment with your consent. Blood tests, such as hormone profiles, thyroid function or iron levels, can usually be arranged at the practice for an additional fee. You leave with a clear next step, whether that is treatment, tests, reassurance, referral or a follow-up appointment. See here for more about our blood tests.
Who books
Who our patients are
Anyone can book – there is no catchment area and you do not need to register or leave your NHS GP. Our women’s health patients come from Fulham, Parsons Green, Chelsea, Putney, Hammersmith, Battersea and further afield, and many first appointments can be by video where clinically appropriate.
Women come to Basuto at every stage: in their twenties with cycle or contraception questions, in their thirties and forties around pregnancy, fertility or changing symptoms, and later for perimenopause, menopause and long-term health.
Many first came here as children. Some now bring their own daughters. That continuity is a large part of how Basuto works.

Private and NHS
Using Basuto alongside your NHS care
You keep your NHS GP, your NHS screening invitations and your NHS maternity care – nothing about booking privately changes that. Many patients use Basuto alongside NHS services when they want a longer conversation, quicker access or continuity with one named doctor.
Where your care needs to connect back to the NHS – a referral into an NHS pathway, results your NHS GP should know about, or shared antenatal care with an NHS midwife – your GP will provide the letters and information to make that straightforward.

Common Questions
Women’s Health Clinic FAQs
What can a women’s health appointment help with?
Almost anything: period changes, heavy or painful bleeding, contraception, PCOS, perimenopause and menopause, HRT questions, cervical screening, fertility questions, pregnancy support, vaginal or urinary symptoms, and fatigue or mood changes that may have a hormonal component.
Can I see a female doctor?
Yes. Dr Nora Al-Saraf leads the women’s health service. Tell us when you book and we will arrange it.
How much does an appointment cost?
£160 for a 30-minute consultation, including any prescription and referral letters. Blood tests and some additional services carry separate fees, which your GP will explain before arranging anything.
Do you offer hormone blood tests?
Yes, where clinically appropriate. Hormone, thyroid and other blood tests can be arranged as part of a women’s health consultation, usually at an additional cost, and your GP will go through the results with you.
Do I need to register or live locally?
No. There is no catchment area and no registration requirement. Patients come from Fulham, Parsons Green, Chelsea, Putney, Hammersmith, Battersea and across London.
Will booking privately affect my NHS care?
No. You keep your NHS GP, your NHS screening invitations and your NHS maternity care. Many patients use both, and we provide letters where your NHS team should be kept informed.
Can a first appointment be by video?
Yes, where clinically appropriate – video appointments are the same 30 minutes and £160. If an examination or a smear test is needed, we will book you in at the practice.
How quickly can I be seen?
Usually within a day or two, and same-day appointments are often available Monday to Friday where capacity allows. Book online or call 020 7736 7557.
